Becky's Story

Becky Seaton was 12 years old when she was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. For years, she managed her condition as best she could, but frequent illness and hospital stays became a way of life. Despite it all, she stayed determined to build a family and live fully.

By her late twenties, the effects of diabetes had taken a serious toll on Becky’s health, leaving her with nerve damage, eye damage and stomach problems. Then after the birth of her second son, her kidney function dropped significantly. When a third pregnancy ended in heartbreaking loss, her doctors told her that her best hope for recovery — and for a future with her family — was a pancreas and kidney transplant.

Thanks to the generosity of an organ donor and his family, that hope became reality. Becky received a new pancreas and kidney in a life-changing operation that transformed her health and her outlook.

Eager to embrace her second chance, Becky set herself a new goal: to get active and stay mentally and emotionally well so her transplant would last as long as possible. After a trip to the British Transplant Games in 2017, a new passion emerged: running and competing in track and field.
