Mission in a Minute

World Psoriasis Day: October 29

While psoriasis is often thought of as a cosmetic condition, the 125 million people around the world who have been diagnosed with this skin disease would tell you differently.

In fact, psoriasis is a chronic autoimmune condition characterized by the rapid production of skin cells, leading to the formation of thick, scaly patches on the skin.

This lifelong disease can result in itchy, cracked skin and swollen, stiff joints, often causing those affected to feel depressed and isolated.

Although the exact cause remains unknown, ongoing clinical trials aim to uncover its underlying mechanisms. And while there is no cure yet, significant progress has been made in discovering and developing effective treatments to help manage symptoms.

Still, more can be done.

With this in mind, Thermo Fisher’s new CorEvitas independent clinical registry in generalized pustular psoriasis (GPP), a rare form of psoriasis, aims to advance vital research to help patients manage their condition.

Supported by the National Psoriasis Foundation, our initiative collects data on approved advanced and standard-of-care therapies and treatment patterns from clinical dermatology practices. It aims to provide real-world evidence on clinical and patient-reported outcomes for patients with GPP.

This effort is part of our broader commitment to support ongoing research into chronic conditions, including psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis.

On World Psoriasis Day, we join the global health community in raising awareness of the impact psoriasis can have on someone’s physical and mental health, sharing accurate information to reduce the stigma, and helping our customers to discover novel treatments for the disease.
