Mission in a Minute

World Sepsis Day: September 13

World Sepsis Day is an opportunity for people worldwide to unite in the fight against sepsis, a life-threatening condition that arises when the body’s response to an infection damages its own tissues and organs.

Sepsis may lead to shock, multi-organ failure and even loss of life; especially if not recognized early and treated promptly. According to the World Health Organization, sepsis kills 11 million people each year, many of which are children under 5 & other vulnerable populations with 85% of cases and deaths in low-and middle-income countries.

At Thermo Fisher, we are proud to support the fight against sepsis by manufacturing more than 90 million B·R·A·H·M·S PCT (Procalcitonin) tests every year to help physicians make critical antibiotic therapy decisions and aid in the early diagnosis of sepsis and other bacterial infections.

We also provide antimicrobial susceptibility testing solutions which enable clinicians to make right first-time clinical decisions for patients suffering from bacterial infections, such as sepsis.

Every step we take, every partnership we forge and every innovation we champion brings us closer to a world where sepsis is no longer a leading cause of preventable death. Join us in the fight against sepsis as we work to transform the landscape of healthcare, safeguard lives and foster a brighter, healthier future for generations to come.
