EcoVadis

We require our suppliers to complete a sustainability assessment with EcoVadis to help us enhance our CSR efforts and support a more sustainable and transparent future.

Key policies

Suppliers of materials and services play a vital role in helping Thermo Fisher Scientific deliver quality products while employing and maintaining ethical business practices.

Working together with our suppliers, we can lower cost, improve performance, operate safely, reduce waste, protect our environment, support diversity, and promote human rights.

Fisher Scientific

The Fisher Scientific Channel has implemented two initiatives to motivate and reward suppliers:

1. The Supplier Tiering Program (STP) enhances service quality and promotes mutual growth by awarding points based on performance, including environmental sustainability criteria, which account for 15% of the scorecard.

2. The Trusted Sustainability Partner (TSP) program aids customers in achieving climate goals by promoting sustainable purchasing. Suppliers in this program will be distinguished by a badge on the Fisher Scientific websites, indicating their commitment to decarbonizing operations and transparency in sustainability performance.

“Environmental sustainability is as critical to the future of our businesses as it is to the future of our planet—and together with our colleagues, customers, and suppliers, we have the power to make a real difference. We recognize the urgency of addressing our changing climate and understand the power of innovation to create a better world.”

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Yes, Thermo Fisher requires all suppliers to set a science-based target, aligned with our publicly stated Scope 3 goal of having 90% of suppliers (by spend) committed by 2027.

To support this, we’ve developed two approved target-setting pathways that account for supplier complexity while ensuring alignment with our business requirements. They are below (from page 10 in our Supplier Guide to Decarbonization):

Please send your confirmation via a link to your SBTi targets (pathway 1) or your publicly stated absolute scope 1 and 2 reduction targets (pathway 2) to supplier.responsibility@thermofisher.com and CC your Thermo Fisher account manager.

For visibility, Thermo Fisher does bi-weekly exports of the SBTi target dashboard and daily pathway 2 target updates (when available) through our internal data management system to allow near real-time tracking against our Scope 3 goal.

Yes, Thermo Fisher requires all direct material spend suppliers to complete an EcoVadis assessment.

We ask suppliers to achieve a minimum overall score of 45, which EcoVadis considers indicative of ‘good’ performance.

However, we also expect suppliers to use the EcoVadis feedback and corrective action plans to further develop their ESG strategies and improve their scores year over year.

To ensure we are partnered with businesses whose sustainability goals are aligned with our own, we do not reimburse suppliers for EcoVadis subscription fees. The EcoVadis costs are tiered to business size to make the costs appropriate for varying budgets and discounts are offered if a 3-year subscription is purchased upfront.

We encourage suppliers to view this subscription as an investment that demonstrates their commitment to sustainability to us and other customers but also gives them access to valuable insights and training that can positively impact their business.

If your scorecard is published, we request you to share it on the platform with THERMO FISHER SCIENTIFIC INC (GROUP) or via the “share scorecard” button on the Thermo Fisher x EcoVadis landing page.
