Made in America, Trusted on the Front Lines: Thermo Fisher Helps Stop Massive Fentanyl Haul

On March 21, DEA agents and local law enforcement executed the largest fentanyl bust in Georgia history, seizing 53 pounds of counterfeit Oxycodone pills and 11 pounds of fentanyl powder just outside Atlanta—enough to kill 2.5 million Americans. The drugs were tested and confirmed using Thermo Fisher Scientific’s TruNarc™ Handheld Narcotics Analyzer, as was reported by local news outlets.

The American-made TruNarc enables thousands of police across the country to act swiftly and decisively, getting drugs off the street.

President Donald Trump and his administration are focused on confronting the spread of fentanyl and its impact on communities across the country. Protecting American families starts with equipping law enforcement with the tools they need to stop it.

Thermo Scientific TruNarc Handheld Narcotics Analyzer is the world’s most widely used analyzer for presumptive testing of narcotics.

Thermo Fisher’s TruNarc is one of those tools. It’s exported to over 90 countries and is the most widely used handheld narcotics analyzer—trusted by law enforcement agencies across the U.S. and around the world.

Fentanyl is up to 50 times stronger than heroin and the leading cause of overdose deaths in the United States. A dose smaller than a few grains of salt can be fatal—and it's added to counterfeit pills and street drugs.

TruNarc empowers officers to quickly identify deadly substances—without opening a single package.

This handheld device scans through bags and instantly detects fentanyl and thousands of other narcotics and precursors.

For frontline officers, it’s a force multiplier that speeds up investigations, reduces adjudication delays, and keeps dangerous drugs—and those who traffic them—off the streets.

This is American-made innovation at work: protecting communities, empowering law enforcement, and helping stop the flow of deadly drugs in America.

Peter Navarro, currently the senior counselor for Trade and Manufacturing for President Donald Trump, received a briefing on TruNarc in 2019 to learn how Thermo Fisher Scientific partners with the federal government to help identify fentanyl at the U.S. border.
