Holly Werlein-Gary and Tracy Gary’s transplant journeys brought them together, and inspired them to support others in the transplant community. Holly was visiting Cleveland with her parents when she suddenly became ill. 

After Mary’s 14-year-old sister passed away from Wilson’s disease, her family was encouraged to undergo testing. Mary learned that she had the same rare genetic condition, which affects the body’s ability to process copper. For nearly 30 years, Mary was able to manage the disease. 

The 2026 Transplant Games of America brought together transplant recipients, living donors, donor families, caregivers, and supporters from across the country to celebrate the gift of life and the strength of the transplant community.
